San Jose State University, in partnership with the University of Guam, is pleased to announce an opportunity for additional applicants to become part of the “Educating Pacific Island Clinicians in Speech-Language Pathology” program, also referred to as Project EPICS. This five-year federally funded program provides scholarships leading to a: Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. The program will use a blended delivery approach of on-line coursework,and on-site course/lab work on Guam, which will be enhanced by integrated field experiences coordinated throughout the academic program. Candidates for Project EPICS must meet the following criteria to be considered for the program: 1. Committed to providing speech/language services to students in your home island. 2. Completed a bachelor’s degree in any field and demonstrate evidence of interest in the field of Communicative Disorders; 3. Have good written and oral communication skills as determined by the Selection Committee through an interview and written essay; 4. Have an accumulated grade point average of 3.0 in undergraduate coursework; 5. Completed the basic science requirements set by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA); and 6. Be willing to participate in non-traditional training formats. Information for New Applicants: 1. New EPICS scholars will be on a “fast track” and will need to be prepared to take their first course, EDSP 102: Language Development, scheduled for June 1 – 17. 2. New scholars must be prepared to enroll in two additional courses in July and August (EDSP 111: Phonetics & EDSP 113 Speech Science). 3. To “catch up” to the rest of the cohort, in Fall 2016, the new EPIC scholars will take EDSP 170: Audiology, along with EDSP 161: Neuroanatomy, which they will take alongside the current scholars.
