OSEP, RMS, NCSI, and Guam CEDDERS staff with entity special education program and fiscal staff from American Samoa, CNMI, FSM, Guam, RMI, ROP, and Virgin Islands.

Guam CEDDERS supported the IDEA Fiscal Forum for Outlying Areas and Freely Associated States facilitated by the US Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), Risk Management Service (RMS), and the National Center for Systemic Improvement (NCSI) on March 22-24, 2017 at the Federal Center South Building, Seattle, Washington. The purpose for the forum was to provide the six Pacific entities and Virgin Islands an opportunity for entity program and fiscal staff to connect with others in similar situations, to share knowledge and experiences, hear updated information from the Department on fiscal issues, and gain access to both OSEP and RMS staff and receive technical assistance from national content experts.

GSAT Provides Accessibility Information to Guam Hilton Resort & Spa

Michelle Angeles, Materials Manager for the Hilton Resort and Spa, visited GSAT on March 8 seeking information related to facilitating accessibility at the Hilton. After considering several options, she borrowed a Braille Labeler in preparation for an inspection to help ensure their facilities are accessible to individuals who are blind. The device was returned on March 17 after the facility successfully passed an inspection. The Hilton is now planing to purchase their own Braille Labeler. JJ Mendiola, Guam CEDDERS Interoperability Data Manager, presents a summary of Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (Guam EHDI) Project data during the Islands/Outlying Territories Meeting held in conjunction with the National EHDI Conference, on February 25, in Atlanta, Georgia. Parents the various jurisdictions and personnel from EHDI Projects from the Commonwealth of American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau, and the Virgin Islands were present at the meeting.

Guam Early Learning Council
The islandwide Developmental and Behavioral Screening System (iDBSS), originally a pilot program under Project Tinituhon, which is administerd by Guam CEDDERS, was endorsed by the members of the Guam Early Learning Council during their quarterly meeting held on February 13, 2017 at the Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex Conference Room. The iDBSS is used by all early childhood programs, child care centers, and select medical clinics.
